How can I automatically retrieve the genres of a tune?
PostedSeptember 6, 2024
UpdatedSeptember 6, 2024
There are two ways to automatically retrieve genre information for a tune:
1. Using the “Get Info” Action
This action fetches metadata for tunes or releases from available online sources. Currently, these sources are Bandcamp and Discogs.
To use this feature, select the tune or release and either:
- Right-click → Actions → Get Info, or
- Use the keyboard shortcut:
Ctrl+I.
Crates will search for the tune on all available sources for metadata, including genre information.
Note: To fetch metadata from Discogs, ensure you are connected by navigating to Settings → Account → Connect to Discogs.
To change the order of services Crates uses to fetch info, go to the bottom of Settings → General.
2. Using the “Get Discogs Info” Action
If you prefer to retrieve metadata exclusively from Discogs, use the Get Discogs Info action.
- Right-click → Actions → Get Discogs Info, or
- Shortcut:
Ctrl+D.
This will limit the search to Discogs only.
