FAQ

Crates comes in two versions: Community and Supporter.
The Community version is completely free and gives everyone access to all the essential features.

The Supporter version unlocks extra functionality and perks. It normally costs 39€, but it’s currently available for 30€ for a limited number of users.

We want Crates to remain accessible to everyone, but we depend on our Supporters to keep the project sustainable and to build new features. If you enjoy Crates, please consider becoming a Supporter and helping the project grow!

The Community version is fully functional with more just than the basic features.

The Supporter version includes everything in the Community edition, plus early access to new features, mobile apps, priority support, insider access, and discounted merchandise. For more details, click here.

Absolutely Not! Unlike the usual online websites and services, Crates is intentionally created with privacy in mind, storing your Library data only locally, in the devices you run Crates; that is your laptop, your phone, your iPad etc.
There is no online backup of your data in Crates Servers.

Simply drag n drop the files or folders from your Finder (Mac) or Explorer (Windows) into crates: either on the tree on the left panel, or on the front table, or the playlist panel on the right.

There are two ways:

1) On the ‘Crates Tree’ on the left side panel, go to All ->Online, right click on either YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music etc and click ‘Connect’

2) Alternatively, you can go to the Accounts section in Settings (keyboard shortcut: CMD + , on macOS and CTRL + , on Windows), where you can see and connect the Online Services supported.

Drag n drop or copy paste the url, or install and click the extension.

If you’re playing your own files, we assume you’ve bought them — meaning the artists have already been paid through your purchase.

If you’re streaming, the streaming service you’re connected to handles all artist compensation.

We always encourage supporting artists directly by buying music from platforms like Bandcamp, which follow a fair-trade approach to music.

When you stream from Bandcamp, Crates gives you a direct link to purchase the tune or release — and we strongly encourage it.

Our goal is to help you explore as much music as possible, discover what you love, and support artists by buying their work.
