Crates is offered in two versions: Community and Supporter.
The Community version is absolutely free and aims to serve everyone in the community with all the basic functionality.
The Supporter version unlocks access to more features and goodies, costs 39€ + VAT, but is currently discounted at 25€ for a limited number of users.
While Crates wants to be available to everyone, it relies on its Supporters program to be viable and enable us to develop more awesome features; so please consider becoming a Supporter and help the project grow!
The Community version is fully functional with more just than the basic features.
The Supporter version has everything in the Community plus access to advanced features, the beta program, dedicated support, insider’s access and free merchandise. For more click here.
Absolutely Not! Unlike the usual online websites and services, Crates is intentionally created with privacy in mind, storing your Library data only locally, in the devices you run Crates; that is your laptop, your phone, your iPad etc.
There is no online backup of your data in Crates Servers.
Simply drag n drop the files or folders from your Finder (Mac) or Explorer (Windows) into crates: either on the tree on the left panel, or on the front table, or the playlist panel on the right.
There are two ways:
1) On the ‘Crates Tree’ on the left side panel, go to All ->Online, right click on either YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music etc and click ‘Connect’
2) Alternatively, you can go to the Accounts section in Settings (keyboard shortcut: CMD + , on macOS and CTRL + , on Windows), where you can see and connect the Online Services supported.
Drag n drop or copy paste the url, or install and click the extension.

If you own the files, we assume you have obtained them by purchasing them. By purchasing you have already awarded the artists with a fee.
If you stream, the streaming service is compensating artists.
We recommend buying music from services like Bandcamp, that embrace a fair trade music policy.
When streaming from bandcamp, Crates displays the option to go to Bandcamp and buy the music. We recommend it by all means.
Our goal is to enable users to listen easily to as much music as they can, so that they can discover the tunes they love and award the artists by purchasing their music.
