What’s the deal with the “wallet” and the balance I see under my account?

The wallet and balance shown in your Crates account represent Crates Tokens. These are experimental utility tokens (or credits) that can be used to unlock features such as Gems, our community-driven music discovery feature.

Within Gems, tokens are required to reveal or downvote music recommended by other users. At the same time, you can earn tokens when other community members upvote or reveal the Gems you recommend.

Although this feature is experimental, Crates leverages blockchain and smart contracts to ensure transparency and interoperability, giving the community open-source access to its rules and data. All data and balances will be preserved when we migrate to a production-grade version of the feature.
