How Can We Help?

I’ve connected my Spotify account, but it doesn’t play. Why?

Crates cannot stream music directly from Spotify due to Spotify’s restrictions.

However, you can import your playlists, saved tunes, and albums, and Crates can search for an alternative source to stream from, depending on the services you have connected.

To Find an Alternative Audio Source:

  1. Right-click on the tune.
  2. Go to Actions > Find Audio Source.
  3. Crates will search for the same track across your connected music sources.

Make Sure You Have Other Sources Connected:

To maximize your playback options, connect other sources:

  • Bandcamp – Available by default (no account connection needed).
  • YouTube – To Search YouTube you will need a Crates Supporter account, due to restrictions by YouTube on the search API. Any YouTube account works, no need for YouTube premium subscription.
  • Apple Music – Connect if you have an active Apple Music subscription.

Check the following video demonstrating dragging and dropping a Spotify playlist, then Finding Audio source from Bandcamp and YouTube.

Tips
:

  • Sometimes the track title on Spotify may appear as “song title – Edit”. If there is no explicit “Edit” in the track title on other platforms, it will not be matched. If you are OK to get the original, simply remove the “- Edit” from the title, and “Find AudioSource” again 😉
  • There is also a setting under  Settings->General: “Auto find audio sources for missing tunes” that if enabled, will automatically look for a source if there is none.
