What is Crates?

Crates is a user-focused, next-gen music app that enables users to merge their music collections into one, listen from anywhere, own their data and discover new music from the community using web3 technology.

Our Team

We are a group of friends, passionate about music and tech, on a mission to build what we need most and doesn’t exist: a user-focused, next generation music app that will help us manage our ever-growing music collections and offer a great user experience enjoying, sharing and discovering music – music that matters!

The team currently consists of 2 full time engineers, 1 strong biz-dev/PR guy (former Red Bull Music Academy) and a handful of occasional contributors.


Where’s the project at

We have now launched the first phase of the project in public Beta. Please download and try it out, we are hungry for feedback!

Looking ahead, we plan to roll out phase II in first half of 2024. 

Building upon a great foundation of structured user data, we have built music recommendation & discovery features, that we are really excited about.
These social features are prototyped to work using web3 technologies, building a decentralised reputation management system on blockchain.


What we believe in

Apart from the exciting tech, we want to create a product that is different by embracing a different set of ethics from the bottom up.

We believe in:

  • Always optimize for a great user experience – not for profit
  • Honesty & Fairness – No backdoor user or artist exploitation. No ads ever.
  • Encouragement of users that care to participate in formulating how the product will evolve.

  • You are good technically but most importantly you know how to get the right things done.
  • You are opinionated but open, positive & motivated!

iOS Engineer

We are looking for a mid or Senior Engineer to own our iOS app and make it world class.
The current app is written in Swift.

Android Engineer 

We have a brand new Android app that will be released soon. If you have the skills and passion to join the Android team, let’s talk!


Backend Engineer 

Our backend is written in Java, doing everything you would expect it to: integrations with 3rd party services, automations, custom workflows, REST, websockets, search, caching & web3
Any experience with the above is welcome, but we would really value attention to detail and passion for performance optimization.
